moving mapping graphics

moving mapping graphics is a project exploring interactive design between construction, graphics, motion, and programming. An exploratory work began in 2023 during a residency with Estrad Norr in Östersund. Architect Hermine Nicole Hedreul has previously designed a structure named "The Drawing Machine," which sketches graphic patterns. Inspired by "The Drawing Machine," moving mapping graphics investigates patterns in choreographic transformation. Throughout history, various systems have been used to depict movement with the aim of rendering choreography as realistically as possible. In moving mapping graphics, we explore how movement is created and altered through different drawing systems where one system's output becomes the input of another, and so on. Some of the images above are from exploratory experiments conducted in collaboration with programmer Johanna Tano.

moving mapping graphics will become a visual artwork in 2024/2025. The project has several parts in its process involving various collaborative efforts. moving mapping graphics is supported by the Swedish Arts Grants Committee as well as the Sweden-Lithuania Fund for a collaboration with A EYE, a New Media Artist duo from Vilnius.
